“Maria’s heart was broken for her daughter Katie†6-10-15
Recently just after I had finished my visit to the maternity ward, a lady near the stairway asked me if I knew where the exit was from the hospital. I said to her, “Follow me! I’ll show you!†While walking to the exit I noticed that she appeared very stricken with grief so I asked her why she had come to the hospital that day.
She mentioned that she was there visiting her 14 year old daughter who was having a baby While beginning to cry she shared with me that she hadn’t been the best mom around but also that she hadn’t been a bad mom either. When I mentioned to her that I wanted to visit her daughter and present her with a small gift she lite up and was surprised that a missionary would want to visit her daughter yet unknown to me.
The next day I visited her daughter “Katie†in the hospital and saw her beautiful baby boy. Also the baby’s very young father was there as well and so I was able to pray for the both of them in addition to the baby. I presented to them a message of hope in knowing Christ as your personal savior.
When I offered to initiate a Biblestudy in their home, they all responded very positively and I will be soon visiting them where they live nearby. I am very happy to see how God intervenes in the lives of ordinary people wanting to help them transform their lives of sadness and difficulty into joy and happiness. As I am reminded in the Bible, “Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.†Psalms 30:5

Our work at SOR Mission calls us to work with some of the poorest in the communities where we minister. We attempt to share the love of God with those living with less resources and I find it interesting that so many of these people are wonderful examples of gratitude in spite of living under these extremely difficult situations.
My heart goes out to them and we rejoice that we can help and assist them to have opportunities to improve their living situations. The book of Proverbs teaches us that, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.“ Proverbs 19:17
You can help us pay it forward by helping us to be able to offer interest free loans to needy families beyond the reach of access to credit. Your commitment to $50/month will enable a family to get into a home. Thanks

On May 5th 1862 the Mexican Army attacked an advancing French force in a town called Puebla, Mexico and even though they were greatly outnumbered and were taking on a well trained French Army of superior strength they were still able to win the battle. The year before, France, England and Spain had formed a Tripartite Force to require Mexico to repay the large debt owed to these European countries. This practice continues to the present day with rich nations exacting payments and trade treaties from the poorer nations around the globe. We continue to see the negative
effects of this even today in Central America with the nightmarish demands that came from the United Fruit Company and others. You might wonder what this has to do with quesadillas, guacamole, avocado seeds and horchata as well as Caleb and Joshua spying out the land in present day Israel. Click on Today and read the rest of the story as well as some ideas for a delicious 5 de Mayo dinner or snack tonight.  I think you’ll find the rest of the article interesting and informative. There I use a passage from Numbers 13:25-33.

I leaned the absolute joy of mangos and sticky (glutenous) rice while working in Thailand as a missionary some years ago. The mango season isn’t complete without enjoying a few desserts of “sticky rice†and coconut milk. Sticky rice is glutinous rice that once cooked becomes quite sticky and forms into a nice shape that you can serve along with fresh sliced mangos accompanied with a warm sweetened coconut milk that you can pour over the rice just before serving. Once you’ve had it you’re hooked. The combination is delightful. You must try it if you have a chance.
Now for those of you accustomed to eating mangos that have been picked green and shipped a few thousand miles
north, you might not realize the absolute joy of biting into a tree ripe mango and enjoying the tropical flavours that come alive with each bite. This is what makes the tropics so alluring to those of us born in the Northern Hemisphere. Just this morning passing through the kitchen heading to the “pila†or outdoor wash sink I smelled the alluring flavour of several ripe mangos sitting on my kitchen counter. Along with great mangos, one can add to that a myriad of tropical fruit to garnish your plate for the treat of your life.
If you would want to read the entirety of this article on Mangos please click above on SOR at Work/Mercy. Oh by the way we don’t ship fresh mangos to the northern hemisphere so you’ll need to join us for a mission week in Central America.

How can we call something good that commemorates a day of suffering and death for the Messiah of God Almighty – Jesus Christ? This day, to us as Christians, is a very important day of the year as we celebrate what we believe is the most important week of all of our human history. The death of Jesus and his resurrection is what we proclaim at SOR Mission to those we minister to. Paul said that this was of “first importance!†for all of humankind. I Corinthians 15:3-7
I Corintios 15: 3-7
Unlike Mormon and others who teach that his life was taken from him , Jesus gave his life voluntarily for us . No one took it but he gave it up for us. The just dying for the unjust! His death by crucifixion was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins (1 John 1:10).
So why do we still call it Good Friday? Why call the day of Jesus’ death “Good Friday†instead of “Bad Friday†or
something similar? In English, in fact, the origin of the term good is debated as some believe that it developed from an older name, “God’s Friday.†Regardless of the origin, the name Good Friday is entirely appropriate because the suffering and death of Jesus, as terrible as it was, marked the dramatic culmination of God’s plan to save his people from their estrangement from Him, that is, missing God’s blessings that he had originally set aside for Adam and Eve!
May this coming Friday indeed be a good Friday for you and your family. For us at SOR Mission it’s a day to celebrate in a somber way the death of our Savior and Redeemer. Let us encourage you to seek the Messiah of God if you don’t personally know Him. Let me know if you do!

She called me the day before yesterday in the early evening very nervous and stressed out asking for my help. She asked if I could take her and her daughter to the emergency ward at the hospital. She said to me “I don’t know what to do…my daughter doesn’t stop crying & I don’t have any money to pay for a taxi or a bus to get us there. Please help me.†I stopped what I was doing and I brought them to the hospital where I prayed for them before leaving late that night for home. The next morning early I picked them up and brought them back to their little house.
The mother didn’t stop thanking me for helping them through their problem. She shared that she was very thankful to the LORD as she knew that He was always present to help in times of need such as this by sending me to help her. It’s not important whether we’re rich or poor, God’s hands, our hands, are there to help others in their hour of need.
As a result of our prayer God healed her little daughter and as a way of thanking God she shared that, even though her attendance had been somewhat intermittent this past year, she saw God’s hand in this and wanted to seek more of God by regularly attending church once again.
My contact with her came through a weekly Biblestudy that we had at her house this past year. As the Scriptures say, “The LORD’s angel camps around the LORD’s loyal followers and delivers them.” Psalms 34:7

In the Northern Hemisphere during the months of March and April there is a major exodus of new life appearing in the gardens around us as well as in the buds of the deciduous trees that are above us. Their new buds opening soon will provide a green canopy above us which also speaks of the resurrection of new life that appears after a bleak winter of greys and browns. For some of us we’re still in a “winter setting” because of the life we’ve been living.
This new life speaks more to us about the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead as recorded in the Scriptures.Â
Read Luke 24 here.   In all of us there is a God shaped vacuum speaking to us about the reality of the Eternal. In as much as the resurrection of new plant life every spring so it is in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ the Messiah of God.
At SOR Mission we teach and explain to those seeking the Eternity that God has placed in their hearts that Jesus is the way the life and the truth. Anyone seeking closeness with the Eternal Powerful Creator God can know him personally through a relationship with the Messiah Jesus Christ. Read John 3.
Leas Juan 3.

Remember the Chavarria family (2-24-2015)
We have known the Chavarria family for about 10 months. The Chavarria family consists of 7 people: The father and mother, one older son, his partner and their two children plus one younger son. Hannah, Hilda and Alexandra started a Bible study with this family to help them with their spiritual growth. Throughout this time they have grown close to them in their friendship and the relationship has clgrown into a very special one.
In these 10 months have passed a number of different major challenges regarding their health, twice they’ve been forced to leave their home because the two wage earners didn’t have any work so as a result they didn’t have enough money to pay the rent.
During the coffee harvest they worked all they could picking coffee either under the hot daytime sun or the cold rains for 12-hour shifts per day. In other words, from sun to sun here in Central America. When the coffee harvest ended they found work cutting sugar cane by hand. This is one of the toughest and heaviest jobs there is in this area.
Two weeks ago when the coffee harvest ended the Chavarria family was forced to leave the 4 post hut that had served
them throughout the coffee harvest as their home. Again with much stress they didn’t know what to do or where to go next; however, they found a small structure under which they could live. The openings in the walls allow the cold and rain to enter the room on these cold and rainy days here, but this was all they could afford. Yet when we arrived they greeted us with big smiles opened the door of their humble house and invited us in for a Bible study and visit.
That day we had a surprise for their son Manuel and his partner Gladys. They have been living together for over 8 years and after the Bible studies we have given they had decided on their own to get married and legalize their union. The teachings they received changed their lives and gave them the desire to marry under the blessing of the Lord Jesus.
They had wanted to for some time but were simply unable to do so due to the high legal fees charged by Costa Rican lawyers to do the paperwork. Thus they were not able to marry. The surprise was that a lawyer from the church that Hilda attends offered to marry Manuel and Gladys for a very minimal fee. After hearing this, the joy in their hearts and the twinkle in their eyes is something I will never forget.
As a suggestion, over the next month as you enjoy your coffee both at home and at your local coffee shop, remember to pray for the Char-var-ria family and if your heart is so moved put the price of a couple of cups into a check to the mission or donate online here on this site. It can be directed to Justice. Thanks
But whoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how can the love of God dwell in him? 1 john 3:17

At SOR Mission we are concerned about helping connect the human need we see with God’s unlimited resources. One factor that we often come face to face with is the desire of many North American Christians who think that God’s blessing gives them the right to live an opulent lifestyle; even going as far as thinking the gospel is silent concerning them living in unimaginable wealth, using it as a sign of God’s blessings.
Our mission is somewhat different. We believe that we are called to live simple and humble
lives sharing what we have with the needy of this world so all together we can make it through this life to a life eternal which is our goal as a Christian. We are having a joyful time sharing with God’s people in need. Join us for this exciting adventure.
The Apostle Paul tells us that godliness with contentment is great wealth. 1 Timothy 6:6-10, and with it, it brings great joy and satisfaction. Read the post concerning this at Today on this page.

Gallo Pinto, or simply “Pinto,” as we call it is a traditional dish of Costa Rican and Nicaraguan kitchens. It’s considered the national dish in both countries and having lived in both, both countries insist it came from their side of the river San Juan. Though many variations exist, the dish at its most basic is made from pre-cooked rice and beans, mixed together with other ingredients such as onion, garlic, bell pepper and cilantro. It’s a wonderful breakfast or dinner item along with tropical fruit, eggs and either bread or a tortilla. Please click on TODAY above to see the recipe so you too can enjoy this wonderful dish. Salsa Lizano can be purchased on line or in many Latin American grocery stores in Canada and the USA or it can be shipped to Europe, Brazil or Korea. Enjoy and pray for SOR Mission while enjoying one of my favorite foods.
