Our goal is to reach 125 families  – 125 baskets – 1,2 or 3 at a time!

This  month  we will kick off our campaign to raise money for the  Click for St. Nick Campaign in Central America.  We’ve been busy preparing for this moment as one begins to feel fall in the air and one begins to think of the upoming fall/winter holidays coming shortly.

If you have the desire to help us this year to make a difference in the lives of 125 families, then go directly to donate now and once there scroll down to “Click for St. Nick” to make your secure online donation of $39, $78 or $117 or more  to buy 1,2, 3 or more baskets @ $39 dollars each.  If you would like to send in a check  or pay using PayPal you can go to our contact us page on this site to find our mailing address or email address for PayPal.

The time is approaching when we will be purchasing these baskets in Honduras as well as Nicaragua and Costa Rica.  Where feasible, we’ll be putting the baskets together ourselves with local volunteers from the community. We are putting together thePicture 12 basket shown in this picture as well as adding potatoes, onions, plantains and a bag of tortilla mix.  In addition, each family will receive plates, glasses,  silverware along with a kitchen knife.  All together, this will be a huge blessing to each of these very poor families.

Please consider helping if you can as this provides us at SOR Mission the opportunity  to be a blessing and to open up doors of opportunity during the year to share the good news of a new life in Jesus Christ through knowing him personally.  The Psalmist tells us in Psalms 41:1 that,

“Those who pay close attention to the poor are truly happy!
The Lord rescues them during troubling times.”

Back in the Saddle Again

by SOR Mission on October 5, 2015

Gene Autry & ChampionMany years ago in the USA, their was a movie folk hero named Gene Autry who roamed the west in movies  on his horse Champion helping those being affected by injustice.  He rode a stunning horse and dressed in attire of a 1940’s folk hero.  Listen to his 1941 version of this song clicking here.

The phrase “back in the saddle again” came from the old west where the meaning was to mount up again on your horse and resume the work you had left for a time.  Having recently returned back to Central America, I am once again “back in the saddle again”! I’m back to help those with less resources, those needing a visit, a work of encouragement, assistance for starting a new business idea, etc.

Where are our folk hero’s today?  Where are those who have dedicated their lives and careers to helping those who suffer and have need. Those who take care of the sick, feed the hungry and helping those with no resources of their own to achieve improvements in their families lives such as sending their kids all the way through high school or a training school.

If you looked around carefully you would find many people who live their lives to help others  These people are the hero’s of today.  Look for someone like this today and thank them for their sacrifice and  efforts.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:10

Nela's beginningThese past months in working in our ministry and  following God’s simple plan in “Seeking Justice, Loving Mercy and Walking humbly before God” I have been amazed in the amount of God’s grace being shown to me.

The Bible says that when we share with others our own needs will be met and in sharing with the poor we’re actually sharing with the Lord.

As I recently told one of the homeowners when she was entering the house, “please touch theIMG_5313 wall of your house!”  She replied, “Why?” and my reply was, “So you can feel what the grace of God is!”

She had been approved, along with her family, to receive a 0% interest loan from SOR Mission in order that they could have a small home of their own.  She had never imagined that it would be possible but God’s grace reached down from heaven to give them a place of their own.   This is a part of SOR Mission’s ministry to the poor.  Please check out other areas on this page as to what we do.

In her case, the grace of God felt like a concrete block wall.  What does God’s grace feel like in your case?  Its around us if we just look because God has given us each a measure of faith that we might be able to see God’s grace working around us.  Please take a moment today to see God’s grace around you!

Justice and Grace

by SOR Mission on August 28, 2015

Peñitas, Nicaragua 018Our work in the Central American nations of Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica has been ongoing for a number of years. In this region of the world they is an absence of justice that it makes one sad to see the poor with no voice having to endure such unjust situations in their lives.

We at SOR Mission attempt to help these victims of injustice one family at a time.  Our work here needs your help and energy.  You can look over the volunteer opportunities on this website today as well as looking over other material on our site.

I find that that the antidote for injustice is not bitterness nor is it armed rebellion but rather allowing God to reveal his grace to those who suffer so much.  God gives to us all the power to forgive and that makes life so much easier to live.  God has given us man y opportunities to be messengers of grace and your ongoing assistance through prayer, encouragement and financial support make this possible.  The prophet Micah shows us God’s way as follows:

“He has showed you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God”

The Peace Plan for Central America

by SOR Mission on August 26, 2015

The PEACE PLAN for Central America (revised 8-26-2015)

THE PEACE PLAN:  This plan is based on our strong belief that we are in the Central American nations of Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua as missionaries to help the national churches work towards self-sufficiency in support and outreach. Many are currently doing that but there are many still that need assistance of someone coming alongside to help. In addition they need examples of what it means to live a sacrificial life in helping the poor and needy through the PEACE Plan.

Our philosophy is to always look for ways to work ourselves out of a job. We at Seeds of Righteousness Mission see the PEACE plan as a 5 lane freeway heading towards the liberation of Central America from the grip of hopelessness, poverty and despair. We are always looking for fellow disciples to come alongside of us to help in some of these areas through their local promotion of what we do, recruitment & the formation of teams, raising awareness and helping with funding, etc. The teams work closely with us in all three countries that we work in.  The groups that come complement our existing work in these five areas. This plan builds disciples both at home and abroad. Check out our page on volunteering and getting involved.  Opportunities exist and we can use your help.

We have followed this plan with our work that began in Honduras and now has expanded to include Costa Rica and Nicaragua.  Each country molds and develops the PEACE PLAN to fit their unique culture.

PROMOTE RECONCILIATION and CHURCH GROWTH: We continue to work with  pastors we have worked with the last three years in addition to those we are looking to add both in Costa Rica & Honduras. Our time together with these pastors includes being their friend and brother,  visiting their services, exemplifying a life that’s reconciled to God, holding them accountable in the areas that they want  help in such as counseling, family, prayer, sermon preparation and materials and systematic study of the Bible, etc.

EQUIPPING SERVANT LEADERS:  It seems that we all need to exemplify the meaning of servant leadership as taught us by Jesus. We never came to Costa Rica, Nicaragua & Honduras to be served but rather to serve the church and their communities by using servant leadership as our model. Matthew 20:20-28.  There is a strong movement in Latin America to emphasize the positions of Prophet and Apostle.  Our sense is that pride can so easily get in the way that the example of Christ as Servant leader gets confused with the position of power in the church as an apostle or a prophet.

I have learned in my ministry that passion of vision and ministry is not taught but rather caught.  Spending quality time with church leadership in the work has enabled them to catch the vision that the Holy Spirit is empowering us to share with them.  This has taken additional time but as we now begin to focus on  further fields of work, what we have sown will continue to grow and bear fruit

ASSIST THE POOR: This focus has been an ongoing activity of SOR Mission since its inception in 1984. We have been involved with the poor of Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. We continue to work in this essential area with those needing assistance through our Justice, Mercy & Construction programs. Through Seeds of Righteousness Mission we also give assistance through our Click for St. Nick program in the fall and winter months to those in physical need.  Isaiah 61:1-3 and Psalms 82:3-4. give the reason and motivation as to why we work with the poor. In Central America the poor do not have adequate access to credit nor government services due to limited government finances available. Their needs often go unmet and many suffer from curable diseases as well as hunger. Our focus is working with these special people.  In 2014 we were able to provide two 0% interest loans to help  two families obtain a safe and affordable place to live.  Our program runs similar to other programs such as Fuller Center for Housing or Habitat for Humanity. In 2013 we committed to help one family in this program.  This year, 2015,  we have made commitments to build/remodel two more homes with the possibility of yet adding a 3rd home to those we’re helping with 0% interest loans.  This will provide safe and adequate housing to over 25 people.

CARING FOR THE SICK: SOR Mission has been giving and sharing mercy with the sick and those needing medical attention in Honduras and Costa Rica.   A large part of this ministry of caring for the sick has been through visiting the various hospitals in these countries. This ministry continues in Costa Rica & Honduras and arriving teams partner with us in helping SOR Mission to share the love of Jesus in this way. In 2014 the SOR Mission team ministered to over 300 women at two different hospitals through this ministry.  This year, 2015, we visit over 125 people a month offering both physical and spiritual care.  In addition, many times referrals are given to the team to visit people in their homes.  Often times this opens doors for Biblestudies in their homes.  Many people have been helped in this way. The following verses from the Gospel of Matthew tells us about our responsibility and this explains why the SOR Mission team has left family and lands to serve others.     Matthew 25:34-40

EDUCATING AND WORKING WITH THE CHILDREN: This area is so important for the future growth of the church in addition to its well being. We have worked with youth and children actively in Costa Rica and Honduras. Teams can come to help us in this area with seminars, crafts, working at a foster home, teaching English and individuals that come can teach and assist the mission in working with the youth and young adults in the church and community. We continue to help them stay in school and those we are presently working with will continue to be helped. We help them to better their educational skills for employment and literacy as well as being examples of the servant leader that Jesus was. Teaching a night class on English is an excellent outreach tool for the “E” team.

Simplicity as found in Central America

by SOR Mission on August 1, 2015

Land of AbundanceFrom what I have seen in Central America, there are two primary reasons why people leave for the United States. It’s not because they seek a simple life up north.  These two reasons forces a question! Why do so many youth and adults place themselves in harm’s way in trying to get to the States to find a rich land awaiting them?

Bestia Train heading northCrime and poverty at home and the perceived leniency once they make it across the border have inspired many in the poorer nations  of Central America to risk the trip. Shown here is the train called, “The Beast” as it’s called by many Central Americas. This train runs from southern Mexico north providing a means of cheap but dangerous transport closer to the US border.  Many Central Americans board trains like these heading north with hopes for a better life up north in “Los United” or as others might say, “Mamita Yunai” ( See book published in 1957 by Carlos Luis Fallas of the same title) Unfortunately, some who board these trains never make it to the land of promise nor do they ever return home. They merely become another unknown sad statistic!

So why are these people looking north so as to obtain more while some of us are trying to simplify our lives by living on less?  Please go to the Today page on this website to read the article in its entirety.  We at SOR Mission are attempting to help those needing help right where they live.  Our help is given one person at a time.  Help here!

‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25: 31:46

Feedback is always appreciated

passprt IAfter my morning devotional in the Book of Philippians today in chapter 3 I read in verse 20 that our citizenship is in heaven! But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ”

Passport_III will be publishing an article later today, Saturday, July 25, 2015 on our Today Page.  In part this came about through recently traveling once again where I live in one country but I’m a resident of another but carry a passport from yet a third country.  Where do I belong as a missionary?  Where do we all belong?  From Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Central America, Korea, Holland?  It should be an interesting article and the results will keep you reading until you finish the article so please check back.

So what is Truth

by SOR Mission on July 13, 2015

TruthIn Latin America one hears the expression que mentira very often which means in English that’s a lie“  We as a mission are called to bring truth to the people we serve in Central America.  Do people today really want truth and not lies?  Continue reading to find the answer!  We have another expression in Spanish that says, ” la Broma en broma, la verdad se asoma  which means that “from a joke appears truth”.  These phrases are interesting expressions about truth that make us curious about the relationship between truth and lies.

At Seeds we are called to share truth in word and action with those we meet everyday. As one man said many years ago to a manTruth & Actions accused of treason, what is truth?” When he couldn’t find a trace of lies in this man he wanted him released.  You know the rest of the story about Jesus.

Our mission is to share the words of Jesus that said, “And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free!” John 8:32 and also he said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one  can make it to the Father (God) without going through me!” John 14:6

When we come right down to it many people do not really want to hear the truth. The truth often times can be very unpleasant and painful and many people are will to live with lies that to live in truth.

Our actions of love, sharing, giving of our time and all that includes do speak louder than the words that we bring to the people we serve.  We trust that they will remember us for what we did and will see Jesus behind our actions because its hard to lie with actions.  Either you did it or not as its quite measurable.  Let’s love in truth and deed.

Christmas in July?

by SOR Mission on July 13, 2015

Christmas in July!  Can it be? (7-13-15)

Mercy helps single mom of two kidsA recent example of Click for St. Nicks ongoing program in helping people where needed with a basket of basic food for the family was in helping this lady I’ll call “D”.  She has struggled in the corner of the world where she lives.  She lost her husband to another unsolved homicide near where she lives.  In losing the breadwinner of her family she took to looking for work and odd jobs to make ends meet.  She is a very enterprising woman and has fought for her son and daughter.  SOR Mission was able to help her recently with some funds that came in for Click for St. Nick.  We were able to help her purchase a basic food basket for her family at a local store.  She wanted to thank everyone who has had a part of this great program.  Thanks for your partnership.

Volunteer Opportunities with SOR Mission

by SOR Mission on July 11, 2015

Current Volunteer Opportunities with SOR Mission as of October 11, 2015

SOR Mission is currently planning to host teams to come and join SOR Mission for a short term mission experience  in Central America!  A team can comprise of just you coming down to experience missionary life in Costa Rica or it can include 3-4 couples or 6-8 singles that want to make a difference.  Work could be in Costa Rica, Nicaragua or Honduras depending on the type of mission work you and/or your team  would like to do.

This fall and winter, when the days get shorter and the temps drop in the Northern Hemisphere , it would be an excellent time to visit us to help us with the work God has called us to. Teams and/or singles can be used in the following areas:

  1.  Helping Alexandra with hospital ministry with children.  Dates are open for November through Michelle, Kimberly with 15 yo girl's babyMarch.  You can go through your local church or communicate directly with us at SOR Mission.    It would include bringing down baby clothes for newborns as well as clothes for children.  Your partnership would include visiting maternity and visiting young mothers with Alex as well as ministry at the local orphanage, giving your testimony to a women’s Biblestudy or teaching crafts to a group of women. You could also help the ministry by bring an extra suitcase filled with birthing blankets plus onesies and other  children’s items.  Every day would be a fresh challenge.  Your cost, including airfare(variable)  and a 5-7 day stay at the mission house would cost between approximately $1059 for your stay with us.  This includes everything from pick up to drop off at the local San Jose, CR airport only a mile from the mission house. It’s also possible for you and/or a couple to take an extra week to visit this amazing country.
  2. Working with Mateo on a project at a local church in Costa Rica.  The work would include some Fuentes de Vida Churchremodeling at the church with some sheetrock, electrical, laying cement block, some light taping and mudding of the wall plus finishing a concrete wall of the church.  Several guys could accompany their wives who would work with Alexandra while the guys would work with Mateo on the church.  It would be a two-man-one week project and costs would be the same as point #1.  In addition material costs would run about $500.  We are praying that this can be done sometime between early November to late December if possible but a later date would be possible.
  3. Work with Mateo in Honduras on construction in and around Tegucigalpa.  We presently have Cesar & Yefry November 12, 2014projects in the works and have need of men with construction experience.    The timetable for this team will be in January 2016.  The team is nearly filled but there remains room for one more person.  Costs will be about $1100 for a week stay plus the team raising some construction funds to use on the project they would work on.  This would be an exciting opportunity for this team. Work would include, but not limited to laying cement block, mixing mortar, laying tile, light carpentry, pouring cement floor, etc.
  4. Putting together a team to do a Fuller Center for housing build in Leon, Nicaragua.  This team Casa lower resolution pixelwould work with the Fuller Team from Leon, Nicaragua and I would be your team leader and would make the arrangements with Fuller Center.  Arrangements for a week’s build can be made once a team is formed.  The best time of year would be February or March with the coolest month February.  Costs would include airfare, stay at the build site on the Pacific coast and money set aside for the construction project.  This would be a Habitat for Humanity type build.  If  you have been with me on other earlier trips with Habitat you will love this build.
